AGA Membership

The Alabama Grocers Association is a state trade association representing the grocery industry since 1990. With over 125 retail members operating nearly 1,000 stores statewide as well as over 225 manufacturers, brokers, wholesalers and other members. AGA is completely dedicated to assisting our members in all areas of the industry and committed to staying on top of the issues that face our members on a day-to-day basis.

What Can The Association Do For You?

Legislation

Legislation and lobbying efforts on key bills and issues affecting the food industry is our number one priority. Each year, numerous pieces of unwanted and unnecessary legislation are defeated by your agents in Montgomery, saving our members thousands of dollars in taxes and onerous compliance expenses. During the Alabama Legislative Session, the AGA is on the scene as your voice at the capital monitoring and analyzing all legislation that will affect the food industry.

Annual Convention

Another key component of our Association is our Annual Convention. Each year at our annual convention, you will have the benefit of professional speakers and seminars to help improve your knowledge and help you operate your business more efficiently. You will have the opportunity for extensive networking, discussion and expanding ideas with others in the food industry. Also great fellowship, activities and top name entertainment.

Alabama Grocers Education Foundation

Since the Education Foundation was founded in 1992, we have awarded scholarships totaling over $1.4 million to member employees and member children. All member companies, their employees and children of employees of the Association are eligible to apply for Scholarships. Each year we host two events – a golf outing and clay shoot – to fund this program as well as other fundraisers. Companies also have the option of piggybacking scholarships for members of their own company.

Relationships

AGA takes pride in the relationships we have with our state and federal agencies and elected leaders – an invaluable asset to our members. AGA works as a liaison with government agencies at the county, state and federal levels and monitors and acts on regulatory matters impacting the food business. AGA also serves as a resource and link to government agencies to help your company learn about laws and regulations that impact your business.

Services

The Association provides a wealth of services, activities, resources and publications for our members. These include medical and health insurance, workers compensation insurance, 401K program, Bank of America credit card program, employee notification posters complying with state and federal laws, travel discounts, discounts on background checks and pre-employment screening.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Alabama Grocers Association is to promote the growth and success of the food industry in the state of Alabama through advocacy, education, public relations and networking.
