SNAP Waiver Information

The Alabama Grocers Association (AGA) is the voice of the grocery industry and actively monitors federal and state activity related to SNAP Food Restriction Waivers and their potential impact on the grocery industry.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) allows states to apply for SNAP Food Restriction Waivers, which would limit the use of SNAP benefits for certain items, such as sugary beverages or other low-nutritional-value products. These waivers are state-specific and time-limited, and not all states have chosen to participate. As discussions continue at both the federal and state levels, AGA is working to keep members informed and engaged.

To support our members, AGA has developed the opposition document linked below to outline our position and provide language that may be shared with legislators. We will continue to monitor developments and communicate updates as they become available.
